Poland will extend the period of legal residence for Ukrainian citizens until 4 March 2024
On 14 April 2023, the Sejm (lower house of parliament) adopted a bill (document no. 3133) providing for amendments, inter alia, to the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens in connection with the armed conflict in that country.
It is planned to extend the period of legal residence for Ukrainian citizens in Poland until 4 March 2024. The extension is to apply not only to stays on the basis of the so-called UKR status, but also (if the last day of the period of stay of a Ukrainian citizen on the territory of the Republic of Poland on the basis of these documents falls within the period from 24 February 2022) on the basis of visa-free movement, national and Schengen visas, temporary residence permits, and residence permits issued by a relevant authority of another Schengen State. In the case of children attending kindergartens and schoolchildren, the extension of the legality of residence is to apply automatically until the end of August 2024.
The bill is currently before the Senate (upper house).
We have already mentioned the expected extension in our guide on the employment of Ukrainian nationals, which is available in Polish, English and Ukrainian.
