Employers will not have to measure employees' metabolic rates after all?

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is working on a draft regulation on maximum temperatures in the workplace. According to the original proposal, which we wrote about here, the maximum temperature is to depend primarily on the metabolic rate of employees carrying out a particular type of work.

Other ministries have submitted numerous comments on the draft. The obligation to determine the metabolic rate of employees raises particular concerns. Some ministries propose to abandon this criterion in favour of simpler indicators that are more consistent with other regulations, such as the type of work (physical/office work) and an employee’s energy expenditure during a work shift.
