It will be easier for foreigners to demonstrate their knowledge of the Polish language
On 24 June 2023, the Interior Minister regulation concerning the list of certificates of proficiency in Polish which confirm knowledge of the Polish language required for the granting of a long-term EU residence permit will come into force.
Knowledge of Polish of at least B1 level is required for the granting of the permit. The new regulation extends the list of recognised certificates to include, TELC and ECL certificates, as well as certificates of proficiency in Polish issued by authorised Polish universities. The previous regulation significantly narrowed the scope of documents confirming knowledge of the Polish language, as a result of which foreigners wishing to apply for a long-term EU residence permit had to wait months for the date of the language examination and then for a certificate confirming knowledge of the language. It is expected that the new regulation will contribute to an increase in the number of applicants due to easier availability of the said certificates.
