New draft bill to resolve problems with the visa issuing system
Yesterday on 26 September 2024, the Government’s Legislation Centre published the announced draft bill amending certain acts in order to resolve problems in the visa system of the Republic of Poland (we learnt of the premises for this bill a few weeks ago).
Despite its name, it is paradoxically difficult to find any solutions in the bill’s provisions that could actually guarantee that flaws and irregularities will be removed from the visa issuing process – at least those on the side of the authorities. Examples of such irregularities include the inconsistent visa requirements that Polish visa applicants face in different locations, as well as unclear and inconsistent rules that responsible bodies apply in making visa appointments and ensuring their availability.
On the other hand, the planned changes would introduce numerous additional restrictions and obligations for foreigners and employers, concerning not only visas, but also residence permits, work permits and declarations. Therefore, if the provisions do come into force in the announced form, they will only increase the level of formality and rigour of immigration procedures.
As usual, we discuss the bill’s solutions (as well as all other possible significant changes to immigration law), at our continuously updated website https://hrlaw.pl/en/foreigners.
