14 October 2025

On Sunday, 12 October 2025, the EU launched the EES (Entry/Exit System)

The EES is a European Union IT system used to register data on third-country nationals crossing the EU's external borders for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period).

Ultimately, it will replace the current system of manual stamping of passports and ensure full automation of border control procedures.

The EES will be implemented gradually. Over the next six months, the system will be successively launched at successive border crossings. Full implementation is planned for 10 April 2026.

According to information provided by the Border Guard Headquarters in Poland, the EES will first be launched at:

  • the Medyka-Szeginie road border crossing,
  • the Przemyśl-Mościska railway border crossing.
