President vetoes bill to lower health care premium for business owners
President Andrzej Duda vetoed a bill that would have lowered the health care premium for business owners.
According to the amendment, which was to take effect on January 1, 2026, the health care premium was to consist of two parts: a flat rate, equal to 9% on 75% of the minimum wage, and a percentage, calculated on the excess of income over the minimum wage.
The premium reduction was also to apply to business owners paying tax in the form of a tax card - for them, the premium was to be 9% on 75% of the minimum wage.
The change was expected to cost the state budget PLN 4.6 billion and affect, according to Finance Ministry estimates, some 2.5 million business owners. After the bill was vetoed, its further fate is uncertain.
