The number of foreigners registered with the Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is on the increase
Social security statistics released for the end of last year show that almost 1.2 m foreigners (1 192.9 thousand, an increase of 65.1 thousand on 2023) were registered with ZUS. The largest group of people registered for social security are Ukrainian citizens, followed by people from Belarus and Georgia.
Although the most popular form of employment for foreigners continues to be the employment contract (the form of employment for approximately 688.3 thousand people), a substantial portion of foreigners work in Poland on civil law agreements (approximately 434.1 thousand people). Some foreigners also conduct business activity not classified as agriculture (approximately 73.9 thousand people).
According to the data released by ZUS, although the proportion of foreigners within the Polish social security system is rising, they cost ZUS only 1% of its expenditure.
