Collective accords and collective agreements will cover contractors?
The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is working on an amendment to the legislation on collective labour law. We have already written on our blog about the most important assumptions underlying the Collective Labour Agreements and Collective Accords Act (UC34).
The draft contains many important changes, not only from the perspective of trade unions. It has been proposed that collective agreements should also cover persons performing paid work on a basis other than employment, such as contractors.
According to the draft:
- both company and supra-company collective labour agreements will cover all persons performing paid work for employers who are covered by the agreement - unless otherwise specified in the text of the agreement
- the provisions of a collective agreement covering persons other than employees engaged in gainful employment will be implemented by an amendment to the act on which the gainful employment is based.
The new rules are due to come into force on 1 January 2025.
