Two Days Off - Not for Blood Donors Working Under Civil Law Contracts

A group of MPs asked a parliamentary question whether the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Policy plans to introduce changes to the regulations that would allow persons working under civil law contracts to also benefit from these rights upon donating blood.

Under current regulations, employers are required to grant blood donors time off work on the day of donation and the following day, and to pay them as if they had worked during that period.

In a recently published response, the Ministry stated that no such changes are planned. In the Ministry's opinion, equalising the rights relating to blood donation of all working individuals with employees within the meaning of the Labour Code ‘would be difficult to implement, both due to the structure of the existing regulations and the socio-economic realities that justify the existing differentiation’.
